This is my home remedy for a sore throat with herbal teas. These herbs naturally soothe symptoms of a sore throat.
Best Herbs for a Sore Throat
To this tea mix, I’m combining peppermint, chamomile, marshmallow root and echinacea root.
Peppermint Benefits
I add some peppermint. Peppermint has a main ingredient called Menthol, which is one of the reasons why it is used in cough medicine. It naturally causes the area it glazes over to feel cool and then warm.
Chamomile Benefits
Next I’m adding chamomile for the calming effects, but it can also help fight bacteria. Chamomile also adds a sweet taste to the tea overall, which is a nice natural sweetener.
Marshmallow Root Benefits
Marshmallow root is really good for healing the mucous membranes that becomes irritated with a sore throat time. That’s why I am adding marshmallow root in with this tea mix.
Echinacea Root Benefits
Finally, some echinacea always makes it into my teas whenever any of us have any sick symptoms. Echinacea is great for overall immunity. It gives the necessary boost to your body systems to help them strengthen.
How to Make a Sore Throat Tea
I combine all these herbs in a large jar, about one tablespoon for all the herbs except a little less of the echinacea root and marshmallow root. That is because the roots are I do less of the root heavier and more potent.
Add boiling water to the herbs and let them steam all day or overnight. By steeping them for a long time, enough nutrients will be extracted.
You can add some of the extra items I list below with your steep, or just straight into your cup when you drink the tea.
Extra Foods to Aid a Sore Throat
Another great add in is lemons! I slice it into 1/2 inch slices and add it before drinking for extra vitamin C.
If you have ginger, add that as well. Ginger is great for fighting off germs.
Finally, honey! Whether you need the extra sweet or not, honey is just overall good for your health. It is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and filled with antioxidants.
Use What You Have
If you don’t have all of these at home, make this tea with whatever you have. Even if you just have peppermint, lemon and honey, all of that would be a great start to just aiding the body and the throat.
I’m going to pour myself a cup of this tea, and if you have a sore throat I hope that this can be of some kind of help to you and that you recover really soon!
